Throughout July and August, the learning team at Elmbridge Museum are out in the community running events for families to find out more about Roman history.
At Play Day and our recent Family Fun event on Saturday 5th August, lots of children found out about the images which symbolised different Roman Gods and Goddesses and had a go at making Roman brooches inspired by these emblems. It was fascinating to see the children’s creative designs and it was wonderful how different they all were!
Roman times were bought to life with a visit from a centurion at our Family Fun event and children were put through their paces when they took part in a Roman military drill. Parents and children also enjoyed finding out more about life in Roman Britain by handling objects from the time.
‘What the Romans brought to Britain’ was part of a series of Family Fun events held by Elmbridge Museum once a month on Saturday between 2:00-4:30pm. Elmbridge Museum will be visiting Shout! on Thursday 17th August to make Roman brooches with the children attending the holiday scheme. Elmbridge Museum’s next Family Fun workshop is on Saturday 2nd September. Learn about the history of writing, experiment with Roman ink and design your own seal and stamps.
