Elmbridge Museum’s collection is broad and varied. We are constantly seeking new and interesting ways to display it and open it up to the public. In January 2017, Elmbridge Museum contributed to the UK-India Year of Culture by displaying a recreation of the flag of India through orange, white and green objects in its collection.
Aside from relaying the history and symbolism of the flag of India, Elmbridge Museum’s display probes the collection of a museum – what is collects and why? Many objects were on display for the first time in many years. By linking artefacts by their colour and not their age or provenance, it is hoped that viewers will draw some interesting links between them.
Below is a selection of some orange, white and green objects for you to browse; some of these were on display for the UK-India Year of Culture.
