A history of education in Elmbridge by our Elmbridge Museum Volunteer Isabella Crook.

The history of schools in Elmbridge spans many centuries.  In the 1800s, several schools were opened as acts were passed in Parliament that would eventually make free, state-run education a right for every child.  Many historic objects in the Museum’s collection survive as evidence of how education and learning has changed.

As a volunteer with Elmbridge Museum, this is Isabella’s first exhibition based on her extensive research of school life in the borough and the recollections of local residents.

The display can be viewed during Dittons Library’s open hours. Click here to see these on the Surrey Libraries website.
